My sound card manufacturer site1/13/2023 For something like sound engineering, this is essential as that task is already extremely cpu intensive. This alleviates the stress of audio processing from the mobo and exports it to the sound card, so you can do more strenuous processes with less latency since you have a specific piece of hardware designed to do only that task, but do it very well. If you get into having more fancy speaker setups (7.1 surround), or if you get into music production/sound engineering, you're rig could benefit from having a separate, dedicated sound processing unit. For normal headphone gaming, or using a couple speakers, this is probably all the sound processing you'll ever need. In standard mobos today, they come with integrated sound, meaning the sound processor is integrated right into your mobo. Since you posted this in pcgaming, and not a more general pc forum, I'll assume you want your answer in the context of gaming.
